Kids who are born into wealthy families get to attend whichever schools are best for them. Kids who are born into poverty aren’t so fortunate. As Clint Bolick writes in the Wall Street Journal:
There’s something about our nation’s capital that converts many leading Democrats to school choice. Perhaps it’s the glimpse that Washington, D.C. affords into inner-city public schools.
But in most cases this appreciation of school choice extends only to their own children — and not to the millions of children in failing public schools.
We see the same hypocricy in Missouri. Although the 196 administrators employeed by the St. Louis public schools earn an average of over $75,000 a year, administrators and school board members oppose a tuition tax credits bill that would direct help to low-income children.
