Kansas City: Missouri vs. Kansas

Kansas City is the 31st-largest major metropolitan area (as defined by the federal Office of Management of the Budget) in the country. The Missouri side of the KC metro area, with a population of 1.3 million, qualifies as a major metro area in its own right. But if we isolate the Missouri portion and evaluate its economic condition, what we find isn’t encouraging. This report examines the data and shows how the overall economic condition of the KC region hides the poor performance of the Missouri side across a range of economic indicators.
